No!

1. Nixon ran for president on the "getting out of Vietnam" ticket. He won the election.

2. Now, as president he intended on keeping his word.

3. He KNEW the North Vietnamese were & would continue to be persistent in their quest to conquer the South.

4. Keeping his word, he planned and executed his objective of "turning the war over to the South Vietnamese"...Vietnamization.

5. To "help" the South Viets combat their foe when the US redeployed from RVN (Republic of South Vietnam) Nixon conducted the following military campaigns; Invasion of Cambodia 1970, Invasion of Laos 1971, and Operation Linebacker & Linebacker II (air campaigns conducted by the US Air Force and air units from the US Navy against North Vietnam).

6. With "Vietnamization" in place, the American POWs returned, the US redeployed home.

7. The US knew the NVA (North Viet Army) would come sooner or later; they came in 1975, but the US ensured it wouldn't spend any more blood than it already had by being there when they did come. If the South couldn't defend themselves by then, then they never would. There was one little glitch to the whole thing though...Watergate removed Nixon (the only ally RVN had) and Congress cut of the MONIES (Funds) needed to support the South's war against the advancing NVA. It was somewhat of a dirty trick, with funds cut off the South ran out of tank and aircraft fuel and their artillery had NO SHELLS left to fire at the approaching NVA. Their military collapsed and with no President Nixon to help them, the South surrendered on 30 April 1975.
