The Egyptian king Thutmose III (1504-1450 B.C.) reestablished Egyptian rule in Palestine and Syria and set the empire on a firm foundation for almost a century. He succeeded his stepmother, Hatshepsut, who had been his regent after the death of his father Thutmose II.

The tomb of Thumose III (in the Valley of the Kings) was looted by tomb robbers, who took jewelry and other treasures. His mummy was unearthed in 1886 and his body was in poor condition, except for his face. of thutmose iii's mummy was in good condition. The mummy is now at the Cairo Museum.

Thutmose III was the son of Thutmose II, and Thutmose III's son was Amenhotep. Thutmose III captured nearly 350 cities during his reign. Those areas were captured all over the areas of the Near East, in Nubia and around the Euphrates River in Mesopotamia. He launched more than 17 military campaigns, using warfare to make Egypt a more powerful country. Thutmose III is considered one of Egypt's greatest warrior pharaohs. A famous victory was the defeat of the Canaanites at the Battle of Megiddo.

Thutmose III was also a very religious man. He had been educated at the Theban Temple as a young boy. In later life, he had several temples built. Depictions within the temples show him giving gifts to the gods.
