The Beatles very first hit anywhere was "Love Me Do" b/w "P.S. I Love You" in the UK in October 1962. It reached #17 - but only for one week, then vanished from the charts.

In America their first hit was "I Want to Hold Your Hand". It reached #1.

Depends on the definition of a hit. Their first single, Love Me Do, reached #17,

Please Please Me (second single) is known never to have reached #1, but it was #1 fow fow 2 weeks in Musical Express.

From Me to You (third single) is the first single to reach #1 in several charts.

Depends what you mean by a hit. #1, Top 10, or Top 20? And do you mean anywhere, or in the USA?

You can decide from these details, because one of them will fit what you want.

UK charts:

1962, October:

"Love Me Do" released in the UK, the first single. It peaked at #17 in the UK charts.

1963, February:

"Please Please Me" released in the UK, got to #1 in the UK charts, so was the bands first UK #1.

US charts:

1963, February 7th:

"Please Please Me" released in USA, with "Ask Me Why" on the B-side. It was the first Beatles song played on the radio in the USA. But it only reached #35 in the charts (only sold about 7300 copies)

1963, December 26:

"I Want To Hold Your Hand" released in USA.

It sold over 250,000 in the first three days. By February 1st it was #1.

This was the bands first US hit. In 1964 they had a total of seven #1's.
