American battleships were bombed at Pearl Harbor. The main target for the Japanese forces were the American aircraft carriers but luckly for the Americans the aircraft carriers were out doing training so Japanese forces hit the battleships, airplanes landed at the airbase in Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbour was by the Japanese. The Japanese destroyed most, if not all of the Battleships, such as the USS Arizona, as well as all the aircraft that could not take off, or in combat. The US was largely unprepared, and suffered the greatest damages in that surprise attack.

There were nine battleships present. Three were sunk, six returned to battle.

The US Battleship Fleet was temporarily put out of action. All battleships were later salvaged and put to sea again, with the exceptions of: USS Arizona, USS Oklahoma, and former battleship USS Utah (which had been redesignated as a anti-aircraft training/target ship). It is ironic, that the "Training/Target Ship" USS Utah, was designated as such. Of all of the US Navy weapons available during the Pearl Harbor attack, the "anti-aircraft" training ship UTAH may have been the most useful in supplying an "air defense." The USS Oklahoma was re-floated, but sank at sea while be towed to California for scrapping. Pearl Harbor survivors: BATTLESHIPS; USS Nevada, and USS Pennsylvania, USS Arkansas & USS New York were sunk as targets after WWII. Battleships Arkansas & New York were NOT at Pearl Harbor. Only the USS Arizona & USS Utah remain today, on the bottom of Pearl Harbor Bay. Both warships still CONTAIN bodies of US Crewmen.
