In the early portion of the 1800s, education was private and not available to most people. However, public education came to the fore later in the century and education became available to most. It was considered very honorable to have an any education in those days.

Education in the 1800s was limited to a few children from the wealthy families. Most of the children would engage in farming and other household chores since they could not afford going to school.
