That would be Jamestown. They built a fort on the James River for protection from the Indians. They had some tough times for the first years. History tells us that they were starving, but I don't know if I buy it.

Think about it. Think of all the fish, crabs, oysters and clams in eastern Virginia even today. Just think how much there must have have been back in 1607. There must have been an abundance of sea food. Plus there were millions of wild ducks and geese.

So what happened. I don't think they were starving because of a lack of food. I think they got sick from trying to drink water from the river. When there is plenty of rain the river water would be fresh water. If it was a time of drought salt water would have come up the river from the ocean. There was a drought at that time.
