Hard, at a young age boys had to work, mainly as the same thing as their father. Girls had to start learning how to sow, clean, cook ect. at around the same age boys had to start working. Women did the housework and men did the real work, as did the children. Girls never went to school, witch was a school house, or a one roomed school house.
Hope this helped you. ;P
In the early 1940's, during the 13 colonies, this is what your life would be. Schools were normally small; they were not like the larger schools many kids go to today. Kids learned to read from a special type of book, they were called hornbooks. Farmers in the New England Colonies had a harder bit of work. A lot of the soil farmers used was not good for growing crops, mainly near the ocean. The long and harsh winters killed most of the crops very quickly. Still, the New England farmers had often grown enough food to feed their own families, and sometimes even other families. The most popular crop in the 13 colonies was tobacco. Basically to sum it all up, life was very hard.
