Dictatorships in Germany and Italy were removed, eventually replaced by democracies. The Japanese Empire was removed and eventually replaced by functioning parliamentary democracy. Millions of people were dead and billions of dollars of damage had been inflicted and needed to be repaired. The remaining European Empires were weakened to the extent that independence movements in many colonies gained strength and the empires were eventually dismantled. New weapons were "brought in" to the world. For example, the atomic bomb, landing ships, and the improved airplane were all invented during World War II. The United Nations was created to replace the League of Nations in the hope of preventing future world wars.
World War 1 was a pivotal time period for women. It gave women the opportunity to prove themselves in a male- dominated society, doing more than cleaning houses and tending children. With so many men at war, there was a large gap in employment and in response, women came in to replace them!

They won. The Allies called themselves the "United Nations" in pursuing the war against the Axis to unconditional surrender. Near the end of the war, the Allies held discussions about a new United Nations Organization to replace the League of Nations. Such an organization was founded in late 1945.
