What was the Aztec tribute system and how was it different from the one in tang china?

The aztec tribute system was used to show conquered peoples their subordinate status in relation to the Aztecs. The Aztec/Mexica people would extract tribute from their subjects. The Aztecs would receive Textiles, rabbit-fur blankets, clothing, jewelry, and obsidian knives. Tribute obligations were very oppressive because the Aztecs had neither a bureaucracy/form of government nor a strong standing army. In Tang China, on the other hand, tribute would be brought to the Tang court, but officials would also return the favor to their subordinates by showering the tributary states with lavish gifts and confirmation of authority.
