Theodore Roosevelt was the Bull Moose candidate. The official name was Progressive Party. He did better than the Republican candidate, but he split the vote and the Democrat, Woodrow Wilson stole the election.

Roosevelt was shot during the campaign by John Schrank, who believed that any president running for a third term deserved to be shot, and this would have ended his candidacy, but the bullet went through his overcoat and 55 page speech, ending up right below his right lung. He said "It takes more than this to kill a bull moose" to his audience after continuing on to the auditorium to give his speech and walked away unhurt.
