I remember learning this in history class...Basically, it was that if southern state officials agreed to reinforce the new tax laws, the tax would be lowered over several years. This affected relations between the north and the south because it finally ended their big dispute, they made a compromise, and this helped them to get along better. Had this even not occurred, the south was about to rebel against the unfair tax laws and this would have meant BIG changes in the history of America. Hope I helped! (:

Quite favourable.

It seemed to 'draw a line' (literally) under the disagremeents by fixing a single line of latitude, North of which slavery would be illegal.

So when the various Western territories came up for admission to the Union, there need be no argument over the slavery question.

This lasted until the aftermath of the Mexican war, when it was clear that California was too big to fit into this arrangement, and another compromise had to be worked out. This new compromise was less satisfactory, and war followed in a few years.

The Missouri compromise was about whether slavery should continue a part of American society. It allowed the state of Missouri to become a part of the union while retaining slavery, balanced by admitting Maine, which was a free state. It also prohibited slavery in the new Louisiana Purchase states. It was considered deeply flawed on both sides, and merely established the differences that would later lead to war.

What was the impact of the civil war after The Missouri Compromise?

There was no Civil War while the Missouri Compromise was in force. It kept the peace for thirty years. It was the debate over the admission of California, following the Mexican War, that made the Missouri Compromise inoperable (because the new state extended so far on either side of the line) and a new Compromise had to be worked out. This one did not last.
