Nanking was a city in Northern China that the Japanese destroyed before WWII. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians were murdered in the most brutal fashion. Read "the Rape of Nanking" and you'll see what I mean.

The Rape of Nanking started when Japan took control of the former Chinese capital, Nanking. The Japanese soldiers went ballistic. They tortured people in ways that no words can describe. They first tried to bury all the bodies, but soon found that to be ineffective. They then just threw bodies into the Yangtze River. Lakes and rivers were stained with blood and turned bright red. In 7 weeks they had killed more than 300,000 people. After the war, they denied all that. Even today many people don't know about this forgotten Holocaust.

The population of Nanking was 200,000 before pre-war and 250,000 post-war. How did Japanese Army killed 300,000 people and added 550,000 to population afterwards is a mystery.

The Nanking Massacre, commonly known as "The Rape of Nanking", refers to the most well-known of the war crimes committed by the Japanese military carried out by Japanese troops in and around Nanjing (also known in English as Nanking), China, after it fell to the Imperial Japanese Army on December 13, 1937. The duration of the massacre is not clearly defined, although the period of carnage lasted well into the next six weeks, until early February 1938. During the occupation of Nanjing, the Japanese army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, looting, arson and the execution of prisoners of war and civilians. The extent of the atrocities is hotly debated, with numbers ranging from Japanese ultra-nationalist claims of several hundred, to the Chinese claim of a non-combatant death toll of 300,000. Nations outside Japan usually believe the death toll to be 300,000. Japanese typically consider this a very approximate value. This number was first promulgated in January of 1938 by Harold Timperly, a journalist in China during the Japanese invasion, base on reports from contemporary eyewitnesses. Many other sources, including Iris Chang's commercially-successful book The Rape of Nanking, also promote 300,000 as the death toll. In addition to the number of victims, a few extremist have even disputed whether or not the atrocity in fact happened. While the Japanese government and a majority of the people have since acknowledged it, starting with the Japanese army's claims at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East that the death toll was military in nature and that no such atrocities ever occurred, even today there exist fringe elements insisting the massacre did not happen. However, the evidences are overwhelmingly against them, and the atrocity have long since been repeatedly confirmed by statements of Westerners at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East who had personally witnessed civilians being murdered and women raped by Japanese soldiers, the existence of extensive photographic records of the mutilated bodies of women and children, contemporary eyewitnesses and recent excavations. The massacre is a major focal point of burgeoning Chinese nationalism, and in China, opinions are relatively homogenous. In Japan, however, public opinion over the severity of the massacre remains widely divided - this is evidenced by the fact that whereas some Japanese commentators refer to it as the 'Nanking massacre' , others use the more ambivalent 'Nanking incident' ). The event continues to be a point of contention and controversy in Sino-Japanese relations.

The actual military invasion of Nanking was preceded by a tough battle at Shanghai that began in the summer of 1937. Chinese forces there put up surprisingly stiff resistance against the Japanese Army which had expected an easy victory in China. The Japanese had even bragged they would conquer all of China in just three months. The stubborn resistance by the Chinese troops upset that timetable, with the battle dragging on through the summer into late fall. This infuriated the Japanese and whetted their appetite for the revenge that was to follow at Nanking.

And for the world to sympathize with them about the "massacre". It was also a cover up among Western visitors (traitors) in China to promote espionage against the Western World.

The Rape of Nanking is a well documented (eye witness, journalists, photos) of a 3 month orgy of rape and murder by Japanese Imperial troops. An estimated 250,000 and 300,000 people were murdered and over 20,000 women raped. It's interesting the denialists have been hard at work rewriting history. Ignoring the mountain of evidence is a testament to humanity's ability to ignore reality. Humans have an unerring capacity to inflict enormous destruction on one another.
