The American neolithic era is not a single defined period. It ranges from as recently as 1500 AD to as far back as 11,000 years from the present day. The region and certain speculated events set the stage for what is referred to as the Formative Age.

Crops varied by region, but several staples dominated such as maize, beans, peanuts, tobacco, cotton, Okra, and turkeys.
