Slaves were revolting. They armed themselves and started marching from Stono, South Carolina to freedom in Florida with drums to attract other slaves. They had about one hundred. Along the way they pillaged villages and killed around thirty colonists. Before they got to Florida, they stopped in a field to celbrate their journey, which is where they were ambushed and killed by the British Militia.
