Lightning war - the German Luftwaffe (planes) would come in hard and fast attacking the enemy. Used during WW2 by Hitler to take most of the countries. Further points Key features included * Co-ordinated use of tanks and dive bombers acting as 'flying artillery'. * Bypassing the enemy's 'strong' positions wherever possible. * Devolution of decision making as far as possible to officers on the spot. In German, Blitzkrieg means lightning war (Blitz-Krieg). Blitzkrieg was named so because it included surprise attacks, "Lighting fast" rapid advances into enemy territory, with coordinated massive air attacks, which struck and shocked the enemy as if it was struck by lightning. The German military in World War 2 achieved most of its great victories with the Blitzkrieg tactic.

Blitzkrieg (German, literally lightning war or flash war) is a popular name for an offensive operational-level military doctrine which involves an initial bombardment followed by employment of mobile forces attacking with speed and surprise to prevent an enemy from implementing a coherent defense. The doctrines resulting in the blitzkrieg effect were developed in the years after World War I as a method to help prevent trench warfare and linear warfare.

The Blitzkrieg was a term used to represent the "lightning war" that the Germans intended on fighting against their opponents during World War II.This idea of Blitzkrieg can be shown best with the German conquest of Poland in 1939. For one, it was shockingly quick because Germany used nearly all of its troops and planes in the invasion. This was a strong force which didn't require much time to bring about the desired consequence since it was so massive in numbers both in machinery and people. Naturally, a speedy attack ensued. That is an important element of Blitzkrieg: speed. But, the Germans also had to hit the right mark in order to succeed in their ventures. In the same invasion, German tanks and armored vehicles, along with strong air power, cut the massive, but slow, Polish army to pieces. The German invasion had organization in knowing exactly the weaknesses of the Poles: lack of speed and disorganization that gave the Germans easy victory. Blitzkrieg fixed that. Therefore, Blitzkrieg was this German notion of fighting with speed and precision so strong in opposition to armies lacking either one of those elements, that a German victory would be guaranteed.

The blitzkrieg was a type of warfare used by the Germans that combined aerial bombing with armored attacks and motorized infantry.

The blitzkreig (lightning war) was the German plan of attack against Poland, and later Western Europe during the early days of World War II. The concept called for a rapid invasion by motorized and aerial forces, to quickly control an area before a defense could be mounted. By keeping their forces moving, the attackers avoided most counter-attacks.

In France in May, 1940, the breaking of the Maginot Line at its weakest point allowed German troops to rapidly outflank the Belgian and French defenders, and reach the Atlantic in only 10 days. This trapped French and British armies at Dunkirk, where they were barely able to evacuate by sea.

A blitzkrieg attack is a fast, powerful attack on a country using planes and bombs, and a lot of infantry, rushing into a country by surprise. These tactics were used by Germany during World War II. It was also known as lightning tactics, and Germany used these tactics on Poland during the Lightning War.
