Best Answer

A former Chicago mob leader in the 1920's, Alphonse "Al" Capone died of heart failure on January 25, 1947, at the age of 48.

Some background info:

On January 21, 1947, Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone had an apoplectic stroke. He regained consciousness and started to improve, but contracted pneumonia on January 24, and suffered a cardiac arrest the next day January 25. (His condition was probably associated with complications of third-stage neurosyphilis, which was diagnosed while he was at Alcatraz in 1938).
