If you were an onlooker of any of the Civil War battles, here is what you would have seen. Mini' balls (bullets) tearing soldiers' limbs to shreds. Blood covered the ground, and a day later, the area reaked with stench. Canons blasted arms and legs completely off of bodies. One man recalled in a letter home, that while his brigade had been marching through the woods, he came across a corpse that had not been buried from the battle before. The man described the corpse's body in grisly detail.

Soldiers looked forward to firing at their enemies, but many also struggled with the fear of being killed on the battlefield.

The Civil War was unlike any other previous war because it was completely contained within one country. The Civil War was a war between two halves of the one country.

What is the difference between a world war and a Civil War?

A World War (like World War I and World War II) has a lot of the world participating (in a more friendly word) in it. A Civil War (like the Vietnamese Civil War/Vietnam War or the USA Civil war) is when a large body fights against each other in a war. It's not like when your class can't decide whether to have pepperoni or cheese for your pizza party.
