What was the conainment policy for the Korean War?
Drive the communists north of the 38th Parallel and keep them there.
The policy of containment (developed by President Truman and being embraced by the US until the late eighties) meant that the US saw it as a major policy goal to contain (limit) the spread of Communism worldwide. It lead to some good policy projects like NATO and the Marshall Plan for Europe after WW II, but also to the Vietnam War and massive US arms support for the Taliban while they were fighting the Soviets…
The US policy worked. The communists were STOPPED at the 38th Parallel. The policy worked so well, we attempted to stop the communists again in Vietnam. This policy held that Communism must be contained to only the countries were it was in power at the time. It was this policy that in the Fifties…
How did US President Harry Truman handle the Korean crisis that effected the powers of the presidency?
The point of the Containment Policy was for the United States during the Cold War to keep Communism from spreading. Also if they failed then the domino effect would occur and eventually, more and more countries would fall to Communism. This is the reason the USA fought in the Vietnam War and the Korean War.
