Well there is no British empire as such nowadays. The ex-empire countries are known as commonwealth nations, many of these still have Queen Elizabeth II as their head of state, and have a close relationship with the United Kingdom.
They're both headquartered in the United Kingdom. You're probably thinking of the Commonwealth Dominions/Realms vs. the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth of Nations is an agreement between nations in matters of trade and other relations. The Commonwealth Dominions are all part of the Commonwealth of Nations, but differ in that the British Monarch serves as their head of state, hence, the Queen of England is also the Queen of Canada, Australia, Bahamas, New Zealand, etc.
A commonwealth is a community or nation based on the common good of all of its members.
basicly the difference would be the name and the size of the group. the function is about the same but the status of the nation could be diferente as the United STates uses congress as being a democratic nation.
Pontiac was a leader in the Odawa Nation. After the British took over North America in 1763 it was Pontiac that organized an alliance with the British to oppose the British take over. The opposition organized, and led to the arrangement of an agreement between the First Nation and the British, in 1765, Pontiac signed an agreement with the British which explained that their defeat over France did not give them rights to their lands.
States and provinces are governmental units within a larger country, nation, or federation.

Fiji is a Commonwealth nation. Any citizen of any Commonwealth nation is permitted by British Army regulations to enlist in the British army, so long as their country was in the Commonwealth at the time of their birth (thus, a citizen of Zimbabwe who was born while the country remained in the Commonwealth is still able to enlist in the British Army, even though Zimbabwe is no longer a member of the Commonwealth of Nations).
The British commonwealth is described as an organization that has the capability to evolve a society. Ireland and India withdraw from the commonwealth and decided to be a republic nation.
Tuvalu became an independent nation in the British Commonwealth on October 1, 1978.
Yes Uganda is a Commonwealth nation. Any citizen of any Commonwealth nation is permitted by British Forces regulations to enlist in the British Forces, so long as their country was in the Commonwealth at the time of their birth (thus, a citizen of Zimbabwe who was born while the country remained in the Commonwealth is still able to enlist in the British Army, even though Zimbabwe is no longer a member of the Commonwealth of Nations).
The Republic of Ireland.
Canada

On August 2 1962 Jamaica became an independent nation within the British Commonwealth.
Ireland became a republic in 1949 after leaving the British Commonwealth. It became an independent nation within the Commonwealth in 1921
Australia is a member of the commonwealth of nations which is a loosely iligned group of country's with British colonial history. If Australia were to accept via referendum that it wishes to become separate and independent (on paper) from Britain, then we would become a republic and no longer a Commonwealth country.
India
No. It was never a member of the British Commonwealth or Commonwealth of Nations. While the British did at one point control small parts of what is now modern-day Thailand's territory, the Thai monarchy remained in power and Thailand is the only Southeast Asian nation that has never been colonized by Western powers.
