The American Economy in the fifties was amazing. After World War II the US was on top of the world! It just had emerged from the worlds largest war as an economic and military powerhouse. Homes and towns sprung up everywhere. The 1950's also saw the baby boomers, where basically, all the returning soldiers and women had fun and made many future Americans, but back to the economy. During World War II the government restarted factories and created many new jobs to increase war effort. These factories made cars, clothes, weapons, and created masses of food to feed the soldiers. Once the war was over, what happened to all these jobs and factories? They stayed around and did some tweaking to make things for citizens instead of soldiers. So the US made all these products and had many jobs. The unemployment at its lowest in the 1950's was around 2.9% and at its highest around 5.5%. So America basically had a great economy.
