The characterization that Jews, Romani, and Homosexuals were sub-human (untermensch) caused many Germans to be desensitized to the persecution and later elimination of these groups. It also allowed many of the Nazis involved in the Holocaust, which was the mass extermination of these and other groups of people, to believe that they were performing good acts in "removing the vermin" who "contaminated" the rest of the population.

What was the effect of characterizing Jews gypsies and gay men as subhuman?

In Nazi Germany, the effect was to justify the murder of them by the government and the recruitment of Germans to do the killing. In addition to Jews & gypsies, the Nazis declared Slavs in Eastern Europe and in the Balkans as sub-human deserving to die. A myth is that homosexuals were targeted as a group. This is not true. The vast majority of homosexuals kept this part of their lives secret in Germany in the 1930's. In fact the Nazi Party secretly had members that were homosexuals. Homosexuals were not declared to be sub-human by Nazis, but deviants or lacking moral character. The Nazis, on occasion, would accuse people of being homosexual as a means to discredit them. Sometimes this was done to purge them from the Nazi Party, or from their government positions. If these people were political opponents then they were put in concentration camps and often killed. Also, not all that were accused were actual homosexuals. In the vast majority of cases, homosexuals in concentration camps were there because they were Jews, Slavs, political opponents or considered a threat to the Nazi regime. From a practical matter it was much easier to single-out Jews & gypsies from society because all citizens & visitors in Germany were identified in-detail by all the local governments. In affect all Germans (& Europeans) were "registered". Their ancestory was known (blood lines, not DNA). Gypsies were families. Homosexuality was difficult to prove, and the German public understood that, compared to proving Jewish parents & grandparents. This government registration is difficult for most Americans to understand, unless they have emigrated from overseas.

Who were the gypsies in the Holocaust?

Same as the Jews, the gypsies were considered far inferior to ideal and useless as people. The numbers are unclear since the Roma did not keep written records but it is estimated that close to a million Rom were slaughtered in the camps. This represents 80 to 90 Percent of the Rom population in Eastern Europe. Some reports state that Hitler tried to declare the Roma a non-Aryan people but could not. Mainly because the Roma had been used for slave so long that there were light hair light skin peoples among them. It is said that he was terrified by the people and their rumored abilities. It is a long held belief that the gypsy as you call them are gifted psychics and spiritualists. good answer ^^ -------------------------------------------------------- There were many different types of gypsy, call them tribes if you will (Roma were one) and they were treated differently from each other. They were mainly held for medical experiments, the gypsies were more Aryan than any other German, they became part of the Holocaust because Himmler wanted to find out what made them special, about 2% of gypsies were 'pure-blooded' and Himmler hoped that they could help him build his 'master-race'. Nomadic gypsies were interned because they were a security threat. Because they were held for experiments, they were kept apart from the general population in the camps, Auschwitz had a gypsy camp of about 30 000. Towards the end of the war they were liquidated, as were so many of the other types of victim, to 'tidy up loose ends', this however was very problematic as the gypsies od Auschwitz were German and neither they nor the guards could understand why they had to die.

Usually playing any game isn't going to make you gay. But sometimes homosexuals will play games or with toys that go against gender norms. Homosexuality is largely innate. Playing a game isn't going to have a huge effect on ones sexuality.

Why do some male homosexuals portray feminity?

A lot of gay people act this way because they are simply conforming with a stereotype that they have been brought up to believe. It is like saying rich people drive limousines. Since you've been drilled with this piece of fact, you want to buy a limousine when you become rich. This is just an example of how society's stereotyping can cause an effect on the groups behaviour.
