A good question. Simple, but thought provoking. It depends on when you say that the world began. One view is that the earth became the earth towards the birth of the solar system, where enough rocks had collected together to form the basic shape of the newly formed planet. There would be no sea or vegetation, just a rocky landscape under frequent bombardment from meteors. The earth at this time would be a grey/brown/black colour, with reds and Oranges coming from the molten rock of volcanoes, and where the earths crust was opened out.
