The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) was founded in upstate New York. About a year later, church headquarters moved to Kirtland, Ohio. The majority of Mormons later moved to Independence Missouri and Nauvoo Illinois, although many members were scattered around the United States, Europe, and Canada at this time. Joseph Smith was murdered in Illinois in 1844, and church headquarters moved to Salt Lake City in 1847, after a brief preparation and gathering of supplies in Nebraska.
It depends on the location... most people were so concerned about providing for themselves that they weren't really concerned with what other people were doing. There are some stories of lynchings of Mormon missionaries in the southern United States during this time, but for the most part the Mormons were left alone.

Yes. This is not something that is commonly preached or taught during Mormon services, but it is a Mormon belief preached by Joseph Smith. The Church-published Guide to the Scriptures says "The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that Noah is the Angel Gabriel" and "The Prophet Jospeh Smith indicated that Gabriel is the Old Testament prophet Noah."
The beliefs of the early Mormons were essentially the same as the beliefs of Mormons today. The way these beliefs are practiced and what beliefs are emphasized have changed over time to be more relevant with the lives of modern believers, but the doctrines remain the same. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) use the Bible (King James Version), Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price as scripture. The Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the same scripture as what is used by Protestant Christians. English-speaking Mormons use the King James Version, which is one of the oldest existing English translations. The Book of Mormon is a record of the people living on the American continents during the same time period as the Bible. It was discovered by Joseph Smith, who translated it into English by the power of God.The Doctrine & Covenants is a collection of the revelations, doctrines, and instruction given to Joseph Smith by God during the early years of the Church. It clarifies and outlines the doctrines of the Church. The Pearl of Great Price includes the book of Moses, which is comparable to Genesis and was supposedly revealed to Joseph Smith; the book of Abraham, which Joseph Smith translated from some Egyptian Papyri; and Joseph Smith's re-translation of Matthew 24.Mormons consider all of these, in addition to the words and sermons spoken by the modern prophets, as the word of God.You can read the four books that Mormons use as scripture as well as the recent words of their modern prophets at the "Related Links" below.
