The akkadians in incorrect. There was four major civilizations that started around the Tigress and Euphrates rivers. Summer is one of them, Then we have Egypt, then Indus civilization, and last Shang China. There were the four major civilizations. Later developed into city states as said above. Then even farther into the future and other civilizations start to rise and people start fighting.
Because the Sumerian and the Akkadian civilization appeared here. The Sumerians are famous because their civilization is the first on Earth. The Akkadians are famous because they have the first empire of the world. It is also known because Babylon is in Mesopotamia. Babylon is famous because it has the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the seven wonders of the world.)
