The lack of Natural Resources during World War II caused countries and companies to seek artificial alternatives. The creation of these materials, such as nylon and plastics, allowed for new product design. Plastic can be molded and shaped into many designs that glass cannot. Curves were now easier to produce in products, altering product design forever.

Quite a bit actually, with the wartime developement of material from planes to ships to tanks. All these were created for the war, its the war that sparked the mass production of material, thus causing a "trend" in creating the better equiptment. New planes meant to shoot down fighters didnt lose purpose after the war, they had an impact with commercial understanding of aircraft and transportation. Foods even, like the classic "spam" was produced for soldiers on the front yet is still something many still enjoy. Tanks may not have been practicle, but think of how much production lines improved, new machines, new ways to build. the German company porsche, actually made tanks for the Germans in WW2. Ships of course are obvious, take off the guns and viola!, a typical boat. Ha ha. Guns of course were affected, new techs and new ways to kill. I know a guy who hunted with a BAR after the war! so yeah hope this helps any. :)
