There were two conflicts between Mexico and the United States:

  • The Texas Revolution (1835-1836) between Mexico and Anglo-American settlers on the aforementioned territory when they tried to split-up.
  • The Mexican-American War (1846-1848) when the US annexed Texas, thus prompting a violent reaction by Mexico.

A special mention is the Occupation of Veracruz (1914), when faulty intelligence reports prompted the attack and occupation of such Mexican port city for six months. It would be a laughable affair if not by the fact that several hundred people from Mexico and the United States died during the assault.

Plain and simple greed. Rich, white, old men wanted a United States that would span all of Northern America; from the Atlantic to the Pacific, no matter the cost. Also slave owners wanted to increase slave territories, and the Mexican northern territories were an excellent source of slaves (Native Americans) as well as prime land with abundant resources, such as California. This became a movement known as Manifest Destiny, and ultimately, led to the Texas Revolution (1835-1836) and the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).

The definition of the Texas-Mexico border. The Americans stated it was defined by the Rio Grande River, while the Mexicans believed it was the Nueces River. Skirmishes along the Nueces Strip between American and Mexican troops resulted in American blood shed. This was used by president Polk to start the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).

What are the results of the conflicts of Americans and Native Americans both in history and in more of the recent times?

The results of the Native American and American conflicts was almost an annihilation of Native American dominance of the land. Currently many Native Americans have chosen to live on US created reservations that stretch from coast to coast. For the most part it can be said that they are not part of American culture. The settlement of the Federal territories from the middle of 19th century on wards to the early years of the 20th Century saw the deaths of many Native Americans. They were outnumbered and out "gunned" in the face of Federal armies and belligerent settlers and miners.
