Depends on what time period you are asking about. Currently, it is the M16 rifle, or the M4 carbine version. During the late 1950s-60s, it was the M14. During WW II it was the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine. During WW I it was the 1903 Springfield (or the Enfield version) Before that, the 30-40 Krag, and before that the Trapdoor Springfield in 45-70.
The standard issue weapon of the North Korean army at that time were the Russian PPSh-41, Chinese Type-50, and North Korean Type-49 submachine-guns. They also used the short rifle version of the M-91 Mosin Nagant, the standard Model 1891 Mosin Nagant, and North Korean Type-63 (SKS).
M1919, Bren, M2, and BAR machines guns were used heavily by UN forces. DPM, M1910 and SG-43 machines guns saw service with North Vietnamese and Chinese forces.
The M1 Garand was the rifle used by GIs in the Korean War.
The M1 Garand rifle - same as WW II.
the AK-47 is by far the most used machine-gun to date, it is estimated that 1 billion people have been killed with this weapon in armed conflicts ranging from Africa to Eastern Europe to the Middle East to Central Asia to Southeast Asia… Except that the AK-47 is not a machine gun, if you want to get technical - it's an assault rifle, whereas a machine gun is a support weapon, usually crew served. In which case, it would probably be the PK machine gun, followed closely by the FN MAG.
If you are referring to the present, today's most powerful sub-machine gun is the H&K UMP .45 cal sub-machine gun, or the Kriss Vector SMG. if you are referring to the past however then its undeniably the Tommy Gun. also a .45 cal sub-machine gun.

The aircraft mounted machine gun was at first simply a ground machine mounted for a gunner to fire. All sides in WW1 used it. The first successful machine gun fired by a pilot was the Lewis machine gun on a special mounting attached to the top wing, allowing the gun to fire over the propellor.
At it's most basic, you attach the ammunition feeding device, which can be a belt, a magazine or a clip, charge the gun and press or pull the trigger. The way a machine gun is used depend on what type of a machine gun it is and what attachments and controls it has. Machine guns are generally divided into light and heavy. The FN Minimi/M249 is an example of a Light Machine Gun (LMG), and the Browning M2 .50 caliber machine gun is an example of a heavy machine gun. Machine guns can be portable or mounted. Mounts can be mobile or stationary. Machine guns can also be mounted on vehicles, boats and planes. LMG are used to provide fire support for a team of soldiers and are usually carried by one solder. The amminition is split among the rest of the team. Vehicle mounted machine guns can be a secondary defensive weapon, like on a tank, or the main armament, like on some airplanes.

Americans used mainly French machine guns such as the 8mm 1914 Hotchkiss mg and the Chauchat (light machine gun) which was apparently very unreliable due to grit and mud jamming the gun. The reason America had such great machine guns from then on, was the need to have their own machine guns but also to eliminate French unreliability. America then made machine guns such as the Browning 1917 mg and the BAR light machine gun (for walking fire) which soldiered on through to the Korean War. Cheers Big John
The Bren light machine guns were used in World War II, the Korean war, the Falklands War and the 1991 Gulf War. Bren light guns were a series of light machine guns adopted by the British in the 1930's.
