If you are talking about Ashoka the Buddist King of the India provice of Maurya, her name is Sangamitta, she was the daughter of Ashoka and Devi his Buddist Queen (he had 2 Queens). Sangamitta chose to enter a monstary and eventully lead a mission to this naboiring province of Sri Lanaka at the request of King Tissa and with the blessing of her father. King Tissa asked that his queen Anul and all other women of his court be ordianed as nuns if they wished to convert to Buddisim. Sangamitta is credited with founding the bhikkhunis (or fully ordained Femaile Monistatic Liniage) in Sri Lanaka. She also founded a Monstary called Bikhhun Sangha or Meheini Sasna (Order of Nuns) this order has now extended to China, Burma, and Thailand. Its said that a tree she planted in Sri Lanaka still grows and is celebrated and worshiped at every year on the full moon day of December.
