Grant was elected President two times. He remained popular in spite of the scandals in his cabinet. People saw him as an honest man and the people in the North remained grateful for his part in ending the Civil War. When he died, several places wanted to be the site of his tomb. He was given an elaborate funeral and his tomb is magnificent.

After he won the war, most people loved him. Even when scandals tarnished his administration, he was still admired. When he died, states and cities vied to be the site of his tomb. New York won and built one of the most elaborate tombs in the country for him.
