standard and miniature poodles were used for water retrievle. toy poodles were bred for comanionship. in France, white toy poodles were treasured so much, that if a comman person touched one without permission, he would get his hand cut off. though people think poodles are sissy puffballs, they are wonderful, friendly dogs.
they now exel in agility, flyball, obedience, and conformation.

For example, an FB1 miniature Goldendoodle (golden retriever/poodle) would mean that the breeder originally bred a poodle and a golden to get the first set of goldendoodle puppies.
