The committees included the leadership from several counties. Thus, in 1775, the members of committees of correspondence had spread the word that the British would go from Boston to Lexington and Concord. The only question was if they would come by land or by sea. Paul Revere watched. Two lanterns hung in the Old North Church. He rode and warned the other members of the various committees of correspondence along the way.
