According to the Torah Moses was the central leadership figure in the history of the nation of Israel when the Israelites left Egypt up until just prior to the entry into Canaan.

The major things which Moses did were the leading of the nation and the receiving of the Torah, which he wrote down for the people.

The life of Moses contains quite a number of significant events which he was either involved in directly or had knowledge of and then recorded. Perhaps the most significant of these was the initial appearance of God to him at the burning bush and the revelation of the divine name. Both in the bringing out of Egypt and in the writing of the Torah itself, Moses was no more than a divine agent. This is not to denigrate his greatness and importance but to acknowledge the real power and authority behind his great work. It was God who performed the miracles in plaguing the Egyptians and it was God who gave the Torah to Moses to write.

Moses was indeed faithful in that he carried out God's commands to confront pharaoh and in writing down and in seeing that the Torah was followed by the Israelites.

Much could be written about Moses' contribution to the Jewish nation. Put very briefly and simply this could come under several broad categories.

1. Religious and Literary. Moses was the person who edited Genesis into its final form as well as the other four books of the Pentateuch. These works, containing the Torah and various religious details form the basis for Judaism down to this present day.

2. Political/Leadership Moses was the leader of the nation from the time of the Exodus until just before the entry into Canaan.

Many arguments from silence have been advanced about the non-existence of Moses. The overall unity of authorship of Moses' works is being recognized today as are the historical markers, recognized by archaeological discoveries, especially those of other ancient literature which support the historical accuracy of Moses work and the appropriateness of the 'fit' into its historical setting.

The Torah says a great deal about him. He is quoted tens of times, and details of his life and leadership are given. We would have to post hundreds of verses to answer this question.

Some major points: Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt at God's command (Exodus ch.12) and brought them the Torah from God (Exodus 24:12). He led them in the wilderness (Exodus ch.13,14,16) and supervised the construction of the Tabernacle (Exodus ch.25-31, and 35-40).

There are a number of quotes about Moses in the Torah. Probably the most famous are the final words of the Torah:

Deut.

Translation by NIV

10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, 11 who did all those signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt-to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
