Ohk, well the basic summary of the March on Washington is as follows:

On August 28, 1963 there was a March on Washington. There were approximately 250,000 people who marched along side Martin Luther King Jr., James Farmer, A. Phillip Randolf, Ray Wilkins, and Whitney Young Jr. All these people had different motives. They marched for their civil liberties, the ending to racial segregation in public schools, protection against police brutality, and the passing of a law that stopped racial discrimination in public areas. During the March these men said their Famous Speeches. The results of the March on Washington were civil rights bills. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed after John F. Kennedy's death. This Act banned racial discrimination in public facilities and in voting rights. ©TeeJay

This does not mention Bayard Rustin, whom if you google, it will tell you was the main reason the march got underway. He organized the entire thing except the politics, and the reason he is not known by most of America is because he was gay and generally was not accepted during those times

I'm just going to tell you what happened:

More than 2000 buses,21 trains,10 chartered airlines, and an uncounted mass of cars fled into Washington.

The march started at the Washington monument and ended at Lincoln monument.

The time of starting was unknown but we do know that it was delayed because of the leaders meeting at congress, the crowd started marching without them to many's surprise. There were also many speakers, like the big six, religious leaders, a labor leader and one female speaker, Josephine Baker, and Floyd McKissick read James Farmer's speech because farmer got arrested in Louisiana during a protest.

There was also a controversy over the speech of the youngest speaker, John Lewis, Many activists from SNCC, CORE, and even SCLC were angry at what they considered censorship of his speech.

There were many singers in the march too.

The purpose of this march was basically to end segregation and quote " burn Jim Crow to the ground-nonviolently...".
