just to say my great uncle was a spy in nanjing for china.
sadly he was beheaded along with his 2 children and wife. He was rather burned or thrown in the nearby river.

∙ 7y agoIt was significant because of the extreme brutality and violence to non-combatants, including cruel and unusual torture, murder, and rape over a week's time as the conquering soldiers were apparently allowed to do anything at all to the conquered people.

∙ 7y agoThe Japanese Army committed atrocities & brutality against the Chinese civilian population of the city of Nanking (Nanjing), China. This included looting, mass murder, torture & rape. It is estimated that about 300,000 men, women & children were murdered during the six week period following the city's capture on December 13, 1937. This event is most often called the "Rape of Nanking" by historians. Google "Rape of Nanking" or "Nanking Massacre" for more details.
