WWII in Europe was a Land War. WWII in the Pacific was an Ocean War. Discounting the CBI Theater (China, Burma, India). The Axis (Japan) took islands in the pacific and fortified them into military garrisons/AIRFIELDS & NAVAL BASES. These were needed to "Protect" the Empire. The Allies (US, Britain, Australia, New Zealand) fought to take those island garrisons/AIRFIELDS & NAVAL BASES back. These were needed to "Attack" the Empire. That was the strategy. The tactics were NAVAL BATTLES. Whom ever won the naval battles; won the islands.
Island hopping. Since the Japanese had aggressively invaded a wide expanse of territory in Asia and the South Pacific, the Allies decided to push back by taking strategic islands and gradually moving closer to Japan.
they would do for many reasons becuasae they are free to fight
Two military strategies the Allies used in the Pacific were island-hopping and
Island Hopping
It took priority over the Pacific.
No, they agreed that the European part of WWII had priority.
Nimitz was in overall command of all aspects of strategy (Island-Hopping) in the Pacific theater of war between the Japanese and the Americans .
Most likely the Bataan Death March would be part of the Pacific Ocean Theater of World War II, as this theater is between the Allies and Japan, the latter occupying the Philippines during the war.
You are thinking of the Pacific Theater or PTO (Pacific Theater of Operations). It is the U.S. versing the Japanese.
"Island Hopping" .
In the Pacific Theater of Operations, America and its allies fought the Empire of Japan.
Island-Hopping .

Admiral Nimitz .

The Pacific war was fought between Japan and the US, plus allies such as Britain, Netherlands, China, Australia
Iwo Jima was important to the Allies' Island-Hopping strategy with it's airfields and proximity to Japan .
Nimitz was in overall command of all aspects of strategy (Island-Hopping) in the Pacific theater of war between the Japanese and the Americans .
Island hopping- they "hopped" island to island clearing out the Japanese forces as they went
The Allies divided the world into Theaters of Operations, of which there were two in the Pacific, the Central Pacific Theater and the Southwest Pacific Theater. There was also a China-Burma-India Theater. US Army General Douglas MacArthur was commander of the Southwest Pacific Theater. US Navy Admiral Chester Nimitz commanded the Central Pacific, and he was also commander of the US Pacific Fleet. Nimitz usually had the six divisions of US Marines, and Army troops as well under his command, plus US Army Air Force units. British General Lord Louis Mountbatten commanded the China-Burma-India Theater.
During World War II, the 'Europe First' strategy of the Allies was the simple commitment to concentrating superior force against Hitlerite Germany before focusing on any all-out effort against Japan in the Pacific Theater. In practical effect, this strategy led to a successful conclusion of the European Theater's conflict early in 1945; however, American forces had even before this time begun successful offensives against Japan that would result in final victory only a few months later.
