Jack London had drifted from job to job. He had tried digging for gold in the Klondike. Then he started writing. He wrote about what he knew. He had lived where dogs were necessary. Wolves and dogs bred with each other. He used the theme of a dog breeding with wolves in "Call of the Wild." White Fang reverses that theme. Instead of a dog becoming a wolf, a wolf becomes a dog.
