A Viking's favorite weapons are axes and shields. but they used swords, spears and bows.

Great Axe:

-5ft

-7lbs

-wood & steel

-A long, slow, two-handed weapon that let gravity do the work. Vikings did use smaller, lighter axes, but the great axe was the most common.

Long Sword:

-3ft

-3lbs

-steel

-A wide, thick, double-edged sword that was widely used. It was kept in a wood and leather scabbard at the waist held either by the belt, or a strap going over the shoulder.

Spear:

-7ft

-6lbs

-wood & steel

-This weapon was commonly thrown, sometimes one in each hand. Effective at piercing shields and armor, but slow and inaccurate.

Battle Shield:

-3ft diameter

-6lbs

-wood, steel & iron

-This was a sturdy, round shield with an iron boss in the center for punching and deflecting. It was made of oak and reinforced with steel. Though not a lethal weapon, this shield could knock the enemy back, stun, and break ribs.

Long Bow:

-4.5ft

-under 3lbs

-wood, horsehair and steel tipped wooden arrows with cotton drenched in flammable liquid.

-The bow was not considered as honorable a weapon as an axe or sword. Though they would fire volleys of flaming arrows from the ship to decimate enemy infantry.
