German troops were not prepared for the cold and by having to wait out winter they also were low on food supplies.

Answer The answer is somewhat more complex than this. Hitler's main tactical mistake was the preoccupation with taking Stalingrad (because it bore Stalin's name) and Moscow (where Stalin was). Taking the oilfields in the south, and securing supply lines would have made victory against the Russians more certain. As an aside, the Russian campaign was delayed for some six weeks because Hitler sent troops to Greece after the Greeks routed the Italian invaders, so the Greek resistance to invasion may have changed the course of the war. The troops sent to Greece were needed for the invasion of Russia, and the delay was critical, with the onset of winter before German objectives (as illogical as they were) were attained.

The main reason for Germany's defeat was the Soviet Union, this was because they failed to capture the two major cities of Russia: Moscow and Leningrad before the winter hit. Another reason for Germany's defeat was that they could not cope with the -30 degrees winter in addition to this as Germany was advancing through Russia they was losing supplies on the contrary Russia seemed to have limitless numbers of solders and war materials this led to many German solders being killed and also making the invasion of the soviet union the main reason. The Soviet tactics, such as: Stalin used his intelligence and ordered the red army to retreat so that they were fit to fight at a later date during the Russian winter. Another reason was that the advancing of the German troops into Russia was made difficult because of the terrible rain of November turned the already poor Russian roads into impossible swamps in addition to this the weapons which were used by Germany froze as they were also not able to cope with the Russian winter. If Germany had not invaded the Soviet Union they could've been able to at least prevent many soldiers being killed and have many war materials.
Trusting Italy too much (Italy was the first country to surrender) and betraying the Nazi-Soviet pact because Soviet ROCKS, the best army in that time (Maybe other than US.)

in invading the ussr in 1941, it opened up a second front war considering that after invading France in 1940, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and later the US, were at war against Germany, thereby resulting to more stress to German resources. weakening the German armed forces by making them deploy and fight in so many areas and effectively strenghtening the allied forces by attacking ussr, by the time D-Day took place, 85% of German armed forces were deployed in ussr of whom there were 27 million soviet military casualties and only 15% fought the allied invasion of whom the allies suffered 2.5 million military casualties. Had Germany not invaded the ussr, and concentrated fighting the US and Britain, there wouldn't be any Normandy landings.

Hitler did make some serious mistakes. The most obvious is sleeping until noon and leaving orders not to be disturbed. This left 2 Panzer divisions waiting, when they could have counter-attacked. The were additional divisions kept waiting for what he thought was the main offensive (thinking Normandy was just a diversion). IF the Germans had been able to hold the Allies on the beaches it would have caused major problems that, in time, probably would have been overcome - but it would have prolonged the war and been VERY costly to the Allies in terms of cost of lives and equipment.

Hitler somehow came up with the idea that killing Jews would solve everything. Besides the halacaust, Adolf hitler was a very smart man. He got the power of his people and took every bit of trust and used it for his advantage. He knew that whatever he did his people would support.
