The usual procedure for soldiers who managed to flee from the battlefield in those days was to return home. The only soldiers to hang around in London would be the ones who had originally come from there. Since there is no evidence that any organized resistance was put up in or from London after the battle of Hastings, you may be sure that they were not there as an army unit but that they were in the area as mere individuals, keeping their heads down.
