All sorts of animals were used in World War 1 including horses, dogs and pigeons. During the war pigeons were used to carry messages between trenches and other Places. The pigeons could travel up to 96km in a day. The army had many mules. In WW1 they were the equivalent of the Jeep of WW2. They could go anywhere in any weather. Ok, they didn't do everything a jeep could do. The officers didn't ride around on mules.

Animals were used for transportation, messeges, and other things. Horses were a source of transportation. Dogs were messengers or detected bombs. elephants pulled hevey tanks and things. Animals took a important roll in the wars.
