He was definitely in favor for the north because, not only was he a republican and agreed with the abolition of slavery; but he also grew up in the north. He was also nominated to be president by the north, not the south. His views on the south were that he didn't want slavery and was upset about the fact that slavery was such a big deal, although he fought the war mainly for peace and unity.
