The 1960's were probably just like the 1960's maybe just a little different. Yes, the woman were poor but their husband's were usually rich so what was the difference. Check the roles of woman in the 1950's because the 1950's and the 1960's are very much alike.

Majority of women were housewives and mothers.

Many were active volunteers at churches, schools, the PTA.

Tiny percentage were doctors, lawyers, politicians or corporate executives.

Women increasingly broke free from the expected tasks related to housekeeping. More of them started doing jobs that were seen as meant for men. Part of the reason is that women had seen in the Second World War that they had been capable of doing these things and were no longer easy to convince they could not.

Men were the providers. They went out, worked, and came home to their wife and children. The woman's job was to stay home and look after the children and do all of the cooking and cleaning while her husband was out making money to take care of the family financially.
