Advances in agriculture were in a sense the spark for a scientific approach to farming that amplified the production of farm products. The changes were partly based on innovations and scientific approaches to enhance farmland production and create more prosperity. Some of the new methods were created by the following people:
A. Charles Townshend who in the early 18th Century preserved the fertility of soil by the rotation of crops. As an example, he alternated grains with soil enriching plants such as turnips and clover;
B. Robert Bakewell, who in the late 18th Century improved the weight of cattle by "scientific breeding". His experiments led to better animal and plant selection;
C. Justus Von Liebig, who discovered the use of chemicals to add to the fertility of farmland. His artificial fertilizers increased crop yield from the same amount of acreage; and
D. George Washington Carver, who in the late 19th Century found dozens of uses for a major Southern crop, peanuts.

The Muslim's main influence on the Scientific Revolution lies in the Greek and Roman texts they preserved in their libraries after the fall of Rome, and their access to Eastern advances in technology. The Catholic Church spurred the interaction between Europe and the Middle East via the Crusades, and this eventually led to the Renaissance. The Renaissance was a new focus on art and culture that eventually spread to other areas, including science. The scientific revolution is just the application of Renaissance principals to science, as well as greater access to schooling that before was limited to officials of the church.
