At the end of World War II, few questioned Truman's decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Most Americans accepted the obvious reasoning: the atomic bombings brought the war to a more timely end. They did not have a problem with over one hundred thousand of the enemy being killed. After all, the Japanese attacked America, and not the other way around. In later years, however, many have begun to question the conventional wisdom of "Truman was saving lives," putting forth theories of their own. However, when one examines the issue with great attention to the results of the atomic bombings and compares these results with possible alternatives to using said bombs, the line between truth and fiction begins to clear. Truman's decision to use the atomic bomb on Japan was for the purpose of saving lives and ending the war quickly in order to prevent a disastrous land invasion.

  • Japan was ready to call it quits anyway. More than 60 of its cities had been destroyed by conventional bombing, the home islands were being blockaded by the American Navy, and the Soviet Union entered the war by attacking Japanese troops in Manchuria.
  • American refusal to modify its "unconditional surrender" demand to allow the Japanese to keep their emperor needlessly prolonged Japan's resistance.
  • A demonstration explosion over Tokyo harbor would have convinced Japan's leaders to quit without killing many people.
  • Even if Hiroshima was necessary, the U.S. did not give enough time for word to filter out of its devastation before bombing Nagasaki.
  • The bomb was used partly to justify the $2 billion spent on its development.
  • The two cities were of limited military value. Civilians outnumbered troops in Hiroshima five or six to one.
  • Japanese lives were sacrificed simply for power politics between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
  • Conventional firebombing would have caused as much significant damage without making the U.S. the first nation to use nuclear weapons.

Where did the US drop the atomic bomb in ww1?

It didn't. Wrong war. It wasn't invented until WWII.In WW2 however the atomic bomb was dropped on two cities from japan; first on Hiroshima, then a second dropped on Nagasaki when japan didn't surrender after the first atomic bomb.Japan was given no opportunity to surrender after the first atomic bomb. Truman's order to use the atomic bomb authorized use as they became available. The only reason Japan had a chance to surrender after the second and before the third atomic bomb was the third was still being prepared and crated for shipment at Los Alamos. Had Japan not surrendered the third atomic bomb would have left San Francisco on a B-29 on August 18 and probably been dropped between August 25 to August 28.There were another 20 more atomic bombs scheduled for production & delivery on Japan from September through December of 1945.

How much is a leaflet worth warning of atomic bomb being dropped on japan?

It is worthless because it is a fake. There were no leaflets warnings of the atomic bomb drops. After the bomb was dropped, Truman was quoted on a leaflet as saying that the USA had atomic bombs. I repeat, "AFTER." There were bomb warning leaflets that mentioned cities that might be bombed, but Hiroshima and Nagasaki were never mentioned and the atomic bomb was still such a secret that its name was never even whispered.
