The battle of Lookout Mountain was a part of the Third Battle of Chattanooga, that fought on Nov. 24, 1863, when Union Gen. Hooker attacked eastward between the Tennessee River and Lookout Mountain. Hooker'smen found the Confederate position weakly guarded, so that they succeeded in climbing it and sweeping the enemy off Lookout Mountain. Some time later this action was called ,the "Battle above the Clouds".
