In the 17th century all five Indian trides formed a union. A union is also called a confederacy. Their government was called The Great Peace Law. The Tuscarora people later joined the Graet Peace Law, so then there were five tribes in the confederacy. the onondaga, mohawk, oneida, seneca, and cayuga.

The Iroquois were an Indian tribe that thrived in the eastern woodlands. With good farmland and plentiful forests they were able to thrive off the wilderness. They built structures called longhouses that could be cut into sections so that they could fit many families. The men of the community were excellent hunters and taught the young boys how to master the skill. The women prepared food and weaved cloth. They taught the young girls how to do so. They also ate corn, beans, squash, berries, deer, elk, fish, cornbread, and soup. Wow! Boy do Indians like squash! Their enemies were the Dutch. They wore breech clothes, overdresses, and moccasins.

The clan mother is the oldest women in the longhouse. The clan mother owns most of the things in the longhouse. A clan is usually named after an animal like a deer, bear, wolf, or beaver. I am studying the Iroquois in school. The Iroquois is a fun subject to study!
