∙ 12y agoFrom the perspective of North Vietnam and it's soldiers, the Viet Cong, the Vietnam War was fought to unify the country of Vietnam and to free it from domination by foreign powers (and they succeeded in those objectives, I might add).

Japan occupied Vietnam at the time, and the Viet Minh fought against them. The Americans backed and funded them since they were fighting against the Japanese. So technically I guess that means they were fighting with the Allies.
