Also, once a military ruler had conquered large areas of land, they kept wanting to expand and conquer. They became very power hungry and blood thirsty. Thus creating emperors and dictators.

Eventually its expansion led to its fall in the Western half and its continuation of the Eastern half which became known as the Byzantine Empire.
