WWII.Russia joined this period

The manchurian and abyssinian crisis proved the league to be ineffective which led to Hitler gaining confidence and starting his 5 step to war (starting with remilitarising the Rhineland).

Also, they failed to reach an agreement at the disarmament conference, Hitler pulled out and began to rearm, this led to France reaming too.

Vilna - Poland refused the League orders to withdraw from Vilna. by France; the League was not even consulted, and Britain disagreed. The League told Lithuania to leave, but the Conference of Ambassadors agreed. General Tellini murdered, so Italy occupied Corfu. The Conference of Ambassadors overruled the League's order to Mussolini to leave - forced Greece to pay compensation to Italy. Disarmament - Britain objected to the 1923 conference. Britain, France and the League were weakened, and began to prepare for war instead.

Why didn't the UN join the league of nations?

Original Answer: Because they are decades away. Improved: The United Nations are not a country. They couldn't have "joined" the League of Nations. The League of Nations was the predecessor of the United Nations - the League of Nations failed, and so, many years later in 1942 (I believe it was that year) they founded the United Nations as an improved "League of Nations."
