Since they started the revolution because of the unfair taxes and unfair social heirarchy, they wanted all of that changed.

They didn't like the heirarchy and the fact that they were on the bottom of it and had to work harder to support the first and second estate. They also had to pay higher taxes, and since they were poor to begin with, they didn't end up with much. Which is why they revolted.

King Louis xvi refused to listen to the third estate?

Louis XVI was not a good leader and felt it was better not to lose the favor of the two smaller Estates. He denied a request by the Third Estate to have the votes counted by the head rather than the estate. As a result, the Third Estate saw they could not reason with the king and this opened the path to revolution.

Why did Louis XVI react so violently against the 3rd estate?

He didn't react violent at all. As a matter of fact he reacted very apathically. The third estate wanted to overtrow the monarchy (thus, Louis XVI as their king), and since he was an execellent king, he was also a weak one. He did not resist. The only thing he did do, was try to flee the country, but he was captured.

What unfair conditions existed in pre- revolutionary France?

1. The first and second estates were exempt from most taxes (taille, or land tax), while the third estate was not 2. The third estate was forced to pay feudal dues to the nobles and the king 3. There was no redress for the land damage of the third estate homes 4. The higher estates banned hunting that was necessary for survival among the people of the third estate

Why did the third estate revolt against King Louis XVI?

Because they were the only ones that had to pay sky high taxes while the 1st and 2nd estates didn't have to, because there was no freedom of speech, religion and press, because they wanted to be able to chose their own cabinet so a constitutional monarchy could be realized. The 3rd estate felt it wasn't right that they were the ones that had to pay up for the luxurious lives of the 1st and 2nd estate and the royal family. This old regime had been designed by Louis XIV. He was also the King who had ordered Versailles to be build, which caused the treasury to be empty and eventually caused the bankruptcy of France. The 3rd estate had to fill the hole the debt had left in the treasury.

Why was France on the brink of revolution by 1789?

The hierarchy of society that had been in place years was unfair. It meant that the king ruled everything, Clergy (First estate) and Nobility (second estate) came second and Bourgeoisie and Peasantry (third estate) came last. The third estate had to pay taxes that the first and second estate didn't. The first and second estate were also given many more privaliges based soley on their wealth and class. Also, France was running out of money. King Louis and his family spent too much on luxuries that they didn't need. He also fought in wars that France did not win. The country was 4000 livres (the currency of France at the time) in debt. The few years before 1789 there had been bad harvests. Almost the whole country was starving while the King was still living in luxury. France helped America win Independence from Britain. Whilst they were fighting in America, the Americans inspired them. French soldiers realised that, like the Americans, they should fight for their rights and that it was time for a change in France. America and Britain gave speeches and made posters and pamphlets and enlightened the French. Finally, the King decided he needed to charge more taxes so he called a meeting. It was named the Estates general meeting. The third estate put together a list of demands for the King to make France a better place. The King wasn't happy about this so he summoned an army, which the third estate saw as an attempt to frighten them. They decided to form a group called the Peoples Government and some Clergy joined them. On the 20th June they met with the King but he had locked the doors and shut them out. They were angry so the went next door to the tennis courts and had a meeting there. And that was pretty much the start of the French Revolution.
